Every week we survey homes and shops across Nigdi, Wakad and Chinchwad where the owner bought cameras online first and called us after they failed. The pattern is always the same: the camera wasn't wrong, it was wrong for that space. This guide is the same advice we give during our free site surveys.
Start with the space, not the camera
A camera that works beautifully in a bank lobby will disappoint you on a factory gate. Before looking at brands or megapixels, answer three questions: What area must be covered? How far is the farthest point you need to identify a face at? And what happens at night — is there street lighting or complete darkness?
Dome vs bullet: which one where
Dome cameras — indoors and low ceilings
Dome cameras mount flush on ceilings and are hard to knock or redirect, which makes them ideal for shops, clinics, offices and society corridors. Their wide angle covers billing counters and entrances well, and the smoked dome hides which direction the lens faces.
Bullet cameras — gates, compounds and long distances
Bullet cameras project further and handle Pune's monsoon better thanks to their sun/rain shields. Use them for building perimeters, parking areas, society gates and warehouse yards where you need to read a number plate at 15–30 metres.
HD analog or IP — does it matter?
- HD analog (2MP–5MP) over coax is the value choice for most homes and shops: reliable, affordable, and it reuses existing cabling in older buildings.
- IP cameras suit larger sites — IT offices, factories, multi-building societies — where cameras run over network cabling and you want analytics like people counting or intrusion zones.
- A hybrid DVR/NVR lets you keep working analog cameras and add IP cameras later, which is how we upgrade most older Pune installations.
Features actually worth paying for
Colour night vision matters more than extra megapixels for most homes — a clear colour image at night is what police can actually use. Mobile viewing is now standard, but check that the recorder supports it without a monthly fee. And always size storage for at least 15–30 days of recording; a camera without footage when you need it is just decoration.
Not sure what your space needs? We do free site surveys across Pune, PCMC, Nashik and Udgir and quote per-camera with brands and storage spelled out — no package upsells.
