Office managers in Hinjewadi and Kharadi ask us for a 'biometric system' all the time — and then we discover half of them want to stop tailgaters at the server room, while the other half want to stop buddy-punching at the gate. Both are called biometric systems, but they are built differently.
Biometric attendance: tracking time
An attendance system's job is to record who came in and when, reliably enough that payroll can trust it. Modern units sync over your network or the cloud, handle shifts and overtime rules, and export directly into payroll software. They do not necessarily lock anything — many sit on a wall next to an open door.
Access control: deciding who may enter
Access control physically operates the door. A reader (fingerprint, card, face or PIN) talks to a controller that releases an electromagnetic lock only for authorised people, and logs every entry and denied attempt. Zones let you give the accounts team 24×7 access to their floor while restricting the server room to two admins.

When one device can do both
- Small offices (under ~30 staff, one entry): a single fingerprint terminal with a door lock can handle attendance and door control together — the most cost-effective setup we install.
- Multiple entries or gates: attendance should run on one designated reader while access control runs independently on every door, so staff don't have to badge five doors a day for attendance.
- Factories with contract labour: keep attendance biometric (to stop proxy punching) and use cards for door access, since card loss is easier to manage than fingerprint re-enrolment for rotating contractors.
Questions to answer before buying
How many doors need control, and how many people use each? Do you need fire-alarm-linked door release (mandatory in most commercial buildings)? Should logs integrate with your payroll or visitor management software? And who administers the system when someone joins or leaves? A 20-minute survey answers all of these — and usually saves money by not over-buying controllers.
We design and install both systems across Pune, PCMC and Nashik, often on shared hardware. Message us your staff count and door count, and we'll tell you honestly whether you need one box or two.
